Candlestick Beach is a long-established neighborhood located along the banks of the Arkansas River. For more than 50 years, it has been home to hundreds of families who have enjoyed, cared for, and responsibly used the river beach as a shared natural space.
Today, this beach and the community around it are at risk. A proposed sand mining operation is currently in the permitting phase and could permanently alter the riverbank, the beach, and the quality of life for the families who live here. Residents are coming together to protect Candlestick Beach and ensure that decisions about its future consider the people and environment that depend on it.
